Bible Reading Commitment, Encouragement, and Challenge
November 5 – John 3-4
Observe with some (Interpretation in Parentheses)
- There is a lot in these chapters that could be meditated on!
- I had read the story of the Samaritan woman at the well so many times before and heard so many people talk about this story as well, but one detail at the end of the story jumped out to me as something I hadn’t really thought about much before.
- 39Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.”40So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days. 41And many more believed because of his word. 42They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.”
- The people were initially exposed to Jesus because the Samaritan woman evangelized them
- In her evangelism, she began with personal testimony, but she didn’t end there
- Her goal was to bring them to Jesus to hear Jesus’ Words for themselves
- And many more believed because of Jesus Word
- (The power of God’s Word is apparent)
- (The goal of evangelism is to bring sinners to hear from Jesus, not us and our stories)
- (Evangelism is all about Jesus, not us)
How Points to Christ
- Jesus is the Word of God who gives people life
Apply
- Please pray that I would always seek to bring people to Jesus in His Word
- My personal testimony of how Jesus and His Word works in my life is good and helpful, but only as a means to open the door to bring people to Jesus in His Word
- Ultimately, it is about Jesus’ story, not mine
- Please pray that in everything we do, we would be Word-centered people (the Word that all points to Jesus)
- And please pray that many more sinners in our lives would believe in Jesus because of His Word
