Bible Reading Commitment, Encouragement, and Challenge
March 26- Psalm 30, 2 Samuel 24, Psalm 94, Luke 10:21-42
Observe with some (Interpretation in Parentheses)
- Focusing on 2 Samuel 24
- David sins against God in taking a census
- David’s sin affects many more people than just himself
- As the King of Israel, he represents the people – sin is always worse than we think
- Even David recognized the extend of his sin as God judges the people because of David
- David cries out, “Behold, I have sinned and I have done wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done?” (v. 17)
- Yet, even in the midst of God’s severe judgment, we see God’s overwhelming and undeserving mercy
- While destruction was supposed to continue, when God saw the judgment, He had compassion and said, “It is enough, now stay your hand” to the angel slaying the people (v. 16)
- (This was the reason why David chose to face God’s judgment because God’s mercy is great (v. 14)
How Points to Christ
- As David, in this instance, was a deadly representative for the people in that his sin led to people’s death, David’s greater son was also a representative, but only for life
- Jesus stands as the representative of mankind, bearing the sin of man on Himself on the cross as a substitute for all sinners who would repent and believe.
- David’s sin led to death, but the true Davidic King Jesus Christ – His righteous life led to eternal life
- Christ’s death was enough to satisfy in full the wrath of God against sin
Apply
- Please pray that I would recognize that my sin is always worse than I think
- Please pray that I would hate sin deeply and want to fight and kill it
- Please pray that as I see my sinful weaknesses, that my dependence and trust in Christ as the only perfect Savior would grow
